Fall is a great time of year to enjoy a multitude of season-specific field trips. The air is cool and crisp, the colors are gorgeous, and there’s just something cozy about this time of year.
While you can take just about any field trip during the season, there are a few that you can only really enjoy during this brief window. Take a look at the links below to plan your next autumn excursion!
The State Fair – Some states have already had their state fair, but many are gearing up for the season. Not sure when yours takes place? Check out this handy link. Many state fairs offer the opportunity to enter items in the fair, such as baked goods, which is always fun for my daughter.
Pick Your Own… – Each state has a bountiful selection of fall produce. Apples and pumpkins come to mind immediately, but do you know what else there might be to harvest near you? Check out this link to search by state, and maybe you’ll find a farm that will give you and your homeschool group a private tour!
Pumpkin Patches and More – Pumpkin patches seem like pretty standard fare for fall, but if you dig, you can find some excellent hidden gems. Last year we found a little-known pumpkin patch that also had an old-fashioned cook house {complete with a nice old man cooking all sorts of long-forgotten farm goodies}, a sugar cane press, dress-your-own scarecrow and more. It was way more than the typical pick-a-pumpkin and was immensely fun.
Fall Field Trip Ideas for Elementary Students – This site has a few great ideas for fall field trips. What I love about it: one idea is about volunteering your time and bringing a smile to others’ faces.
Fruit Festivals – Festivals are fun, period. And add in fruit? Imagine all the cobbler, pie, ice cream, and more! Take a look at this link to find a fruit festival in your area.
